Are you absolutely sick of masking all the time? Are you tired of people not understanding a very real and core part of your existence? If you are autistic, you may be experiencing several challenges. Some of what I have worked on with previous clients include: communication with family members and coming to an understanding of how being autistic affects you within your family. Navigating life as an autistic adult and all that comes with that – from the frustrations of finding employment to figuring out how in the world to make a doctor’s appointment on the phone when you have so much social anxiety or fear of doing something you may have never done before. You may be having difficulty getting to the end of a goal, having a tough time in college or in your relationship. Some of my clients have never dated or they want to explore if they are an ACE or asexual.
You may be seeking therapy for several reasons, or you may be part of the LGBTQ and transgender community and want to make sure your new therapist is affirming of that identity too. You may want to know that your therapist understands why Dragon Con is so important to you or why you need online friends instead.
The truth is you may be coming to therapy for something different than your autism. But you want a therapist that understands autism and isn’t going to use ABA therapy or make you mask in session. I won’t do either of those things with you.
I will help you to be your authentic self while learning to navigate the world as an autistic person. I will help you explore your gender identity without blaming it on your autism. I believe you are a whole person and there is much more to you than being autistic. I want to help you explore the possibilities in life and help you obtain the goals that you have set for yourself. That could be starting to date, coming out to your friends or family as asexual, getting a job, graduating college, deciding if you are transgender and if you want to transition or not or that could any other goal you have set for yourself.
The important thing is that together, we are working on goals that you have set and that you want to obtain, not goals that society has placed on you because it is neurotypical.
